Marketing Kitchen How to supply Artwork

Artwork Submission Tips – Get It Right the First Time

  • Native Files Preferred – Always send working files when possible. We love InDesign.

  • Package Everything – In InDesign or Illustrator, package all fonts and linked images. Use “Package” or “Collect for Output.”

  • Include Bleed & Crop Marks – Even if there’s no bleed, crop marks are a must.

  • Crop Marks = ¼ inch – Set them correctly to avoid trimming errors.

  • Send a PDF for Proofing – Always include a PDF so we can visually verify your intent.

  • Submitting a High-Res PDF? – Use PDF/X-1a (not PDF/X or others).

  • Show Dielines in Spot Colour – Use magenta or another distinct PMS (never CMYK).

  • Set Dielines as Spot PMS – They must be a named Pantone spot colour.

  • Multi-Page Projects? – Send as single pages only (no reader or printer spreads).

Print-Ready Files – Key Reminders

  • If it looks dark on screen, it’ll print dark – Lighten images before sending.

  • 300 DPI minimum – Anything less may print pixelated or blurry.

  • Match the Colour Mode to the Print Process:

    • For CMYK printing, convert all PMS colours to CMYK.

    • For PMS-only printing, convert all CMYK to PMS.

  • Lettercopy Files – Send in InDesign when possible. If not, use Word. Avoid PDFs unless they’re saved as PDF/X-1a.

  • Include a Form Code – Add small mouse-type versioning on each artwork file. One side is enough.
Example: MKLH0525 = Marketing Kitchen Letterhead, May 2025.
This keeps versioning clear and ensures accurate production.

  • No PDFs for Variable Data – We do not accept high-res PDFs for jobs with variable copy.

    • For variable data jobs, send artwork in InDesign.

    • If InDesign isn’t available, we’ll accept a Word document.
